StackOverflow's Licensing Is A Bit Unbalanced:

According to the Public Network Terms of Service (https://stackoverflow.com/legal/terms-of-service/public#licensing), StackOverflow requires users to release their contributions under the Creative Commons CC-BY-SA, and a custom license that is only between the user and service. The Creative Commons CC-BY-SA allows users of the service to use content, but only if they provide attribution which, basically acts as free advertising for StackOverflow. StackOverflow however, also has rights under the second license which, doesn't require them to give attribution at all. Users are really getting the short end of the stick here, but they don't have to. As the copyright holder of the contribution you make, you can also release your contribution under what-ever other license you like, and in doing so grant users the same freedoms as the service, or more. At least that's my understanding; I'm not lawyer.
